Roots
In the series Roots, I explore the parallels between the growth of nature and my own artistic process.
As the painting evolves, forms, colours, and marks unfold through a dialogue of intuition, chance, and response. Each new gesture reacts to what came before. In the same way, blossoms arrange themselves, fade, and fall to the floor – always as an echo of a previous moment. These quiet connections between emergence, change, and origin run through every work in the series. Roots points to what lies beneath everything: the unseen foundation that holds it all.

“In Juliane Kellersmann’s paintings, gestural abstract surfaces speak to the relationship between form and colour, where pastel tones are combined with earthier hues to form a muted and carefully layered palette. Catching at fleeting emotions and personal moments, she works intuitively, following the guidance of brush and paint. The paintings recall the blooming and fading of vibrant flowers or the changing indirect light of a soft sunrise, drawing on the essential cyclicality and metamorphosis of the natural world.”
